8"x10" goauche on paper painting. I used one big sheet of wax paper on the wet paint and it created these cracked strips in the paint as it dried.

I was unaware that one can still buy "waxed paper".
It was common when I was a boy but was soon replaced
by 'plastic wrap,' or Saran Wrap, ie real plastic. I'll have to
look around for the original wax paper. Great textures...

Thanks! Yeah, I get Reynolds "cut-rite" wax paper. It leaves really neat textures, and I like gouache because you can layer it, so sometimes I have layers and layers of wax paper treated paint on a piece.

I've used plastic wrap for years and have added various
thicknesses of other pieces of plastic. I have taken to
manipulating (pushing) the plastic with the tips of my fingers (when
the paint is still wet) to control the shapes of where the
wrap 'lifts off' the paper, leaving a different value.
Fun to play with. Thanks for getting back...

I haven't tried that. Do you leave the wrap on the paint until it dries?

Yes, generally the effect is more enhanced
when it can dry thoroughly. And that can be some
time! HAppy waiting!
